SAMPLE COMPOSITION

¡Hola, chicos!
Espero que estéis descasando y pasándolo muy bien. De cara a prepararos el writing del examen de septiembre, para cada tipo de redacción tenéis dos modelos: el que os proporciona el libro en la página que os indico y éste otro que os incluyo aquí.

-An informal email (pg 18)
-An informal email about your holiday (pg 30)
-A story (pg 44)
-An email expressing your opinion (pg 56)
-An informal email about your favourite restaurant. (pg 70)
-An email describing a celebration you attended (pg 82)
-An article providing solutions to a problem (pg 96)

1-An informal email
Dear John,
I´m a 14-year-old student in secondary school. I live in Glasgow, Scotland.
I get up at 7:30 and then I have breakfast. I catch a bus to school at 8:30. My favourite school subjects are English and Art, but I don´t really like Physics! In the afternoons, I do my homework and sometimes watch TV. In the evenings, I surf the Net or read a book. I usually go to bed at 11:00.
At the weekends, I usually go horse-riding. I like watching DVDs, too. Sometimes, I play computer games.
What about you? Write soon.
Anna
2-An informal email about your holiday
Hi Brian,
How are you? I´m writing to tell you about my sightseeing holiday in New York. I had a great time. We stayed in a beautiful three-star hotel with a view of Central Park. In the morning we went sightseeing and visited the city´s many interesting museums and art galleries. Although the weather was freezing cold and windy, we went shopping and bought lots of souvenirs. In the evening we ate out, tried all the local dishes and we also enjoyed the city´s live music venues.
The only problem I had was that the airline lost my luggage. I waited four days to get ti bak.
Well, that´s all my news.
Write back soon,
Elizabeth
3-A story
Last month, I went climbing in the mountains. The weather was freezing but I was warmly dressed.
After a couple of hours, I stopped to eat something. Suddenly, I saw a few tiny snowflakes. Then, the sky got darker and it started snowing very heavily. I started to walk back but the snow was so thick I couldn´t see in front of me. I built a snow igloo and put a red scarf on top. An hour later, I heard a helicopter.
They lowered a line with a basket and lifted me to safety. I was exhausted but very relieved.
4-An email expressing your opinion
Hi Peter,
You asked me my opinion about which sport you should choose, swimming or snowboarding. They are both challenging sports.
Swimming is a great way to keep fit and it´s not expensive. You don´t need a lot of equipment, but you may have to practise for long hours. Snowboarding is thrilling and a good form of exercise, but the equipment is very expensive. Also, it can be dangerous.
To me, both sports have good and bad points. You should choose the one you like the most. Let me know how you get on.
Ken
5-An informal email about your favourite restaurant.
Dear Jane,
I hope you´re well. I want to tell you about my favourite restaurant. It´s called Rico´s and it´s in the centre of town.
Rico´s serves fantastic seafood. My favourite dish is fish and chips. It´s fresh and delicious. There´s also a  great range of salads and desserts.
The service is excellent. The staff are very friendly, polite and fast. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the prices are reasonable, too.
I know you love seafood, so I´m sure you´ll love it. Why don´t we go there for a meal sometime?
Write back soon,
Katy

6-An email describing a celebration you attended
Hi Rosa,
Hope you are OK. I´ve just been to the Ice Sculpture Festival in Poznañ in Poland and I thought I´d tell you all about it.
It´s an annual winter festival that takes place in February. It´s fantastic. I saw amazing snow statues and ice sculptures and I went on a giant snow slide! I also listened to live music and in the evening I tried some food. It was delicious!
I enjoyed the festival very much. It was great fun.
Don´t miss the chance to go!
Yours,
Kate

7-An article providing solutions to a problem
What´s the problem?
Water is running short! Every year millions of people die from thirst or lack of clean water. If we don´t do something to start saving it, life on Earth will disappear.
Why is it happening?
The problem is that climate change causes droughts. Crops cannot grow and people go hungry. We also pollute water supplies. This makes people get diseases and become ill.
What can we do?
We can turn off taps when we do not need them and we can take showers instead of baths. We can also catch rainwater to wash the car. If we act together, then we can make a difference!

PLANTING SEEDS

1.       Choose the variety and quantity of seeds you want to grow. Common beans are the easiest to cultivate. You can choose one or some seeds.
2.       Choose an object such as a plastic cup to grow them.  You can use a plastic cup/ yoghourt pot to grow them.
3.       Get a piece of clean cotton and moisten it. The more seeds you want to cultivate, the more cotton that you will need. Do not soak the cotton, or the seeds will not grow.
4.       Distribute the seeds above the cotton. Burying or placing the seeds too closely next to each other will cause the sprouts to grow with difficulties, and may kill the struggling plant.
5.       Water the beans when the cotton is starting to dry. In warm temperatures, do this every two days, and in cold temperatures, two times a week. After about three days, the sprouts will germinate.

6.       Plant the sprouts. When the sprouts reaches about 20 centimeter (7.9 in), bury the cotton, along with the sprouts, in the soil.
